UNUSUSAL EXHIBITION AT "ATELIER BUSCH 8". INSTALLATIONS AND MUSIC ENCHANT VISITORS.

Nettetal · The door of Barbara Schmitz-Becker's artist studio has just closed behind the visitor, than it becomes poetic, magical, enchanting. What the current exhibition offers.
It is dark outside, the lights in the approximately 300 square meter exhibition hall were turned off, only one spotlight is illuminating the work "Plexus". "Plexus" is a mobile, coral-like installation. Accompanied by filigree music, the shadows of "Plexus" begin to turn and rise, dancing over the walls, taking over the room. You cannot get enough of the subtle changes that the light creates in interaction with the object. The visual impression is accompanied by soft music that reflects the movements of the shadows.
The Cologne based musicians Franzis Lating and Johannes Elia Nuß alias the bottomline have translated these and other installations by Barbara Schmitz-Becker into sounds with piano, drums, voice and electronic music. "The compositions were created within three days: I hung the works, while Lating and Nuß developed simultaneously what they call 'soundscape'," Schmitz-Becker explains.
Ten years of artistic nature research project Eden Zwo Laboratory on Spitsbergen - this is the occasion for this extraordinary exhibition action. Barbara Schmitz-Becker shows a cross-section of her spatial installations referring to algae, mosses, lichens or unicellular organisms.
Another smooth moving installation hangs in front of the white wall, it is titled "Moos". The bright bouncing sounds that the musicians have found to accompany this installation sometimes seem to burst like drops of water, sometimes to float. A fascinating project!

about

the bottomline Köln, Germany

the bottomline is a multi-genre music project from Cologne admired for their captivating “melancholic-sweet-cathartic” sound. Franzis Lating and Johannes Elia Nuß draw on alleged contrary musical traditions and combine them with great keenness to experiment to a “highly individual, novel experience", that morphs somewhere between Jazz, Classical and electronic music. ... more
